My Coffee Career Progression 1

Ok, I’ve decided to share my career path in coffee on Instagram.


It’s not just because I am a bit bored in this lockdown period, but also I would like to share my insights on choosing different paths.


You might not know, but I have worked in many sectors in the coffee: baristas, roastery assistant, green importer assistant and sales, quality control manager, Head of coffee. I also have volunteered quite a lot of events in different countries.


From a fresh-off-boat immigrant to three-time UK cup tasters champions, my journey hasn’t been easy. In fact, it’s rather bumpy. I am going to split the post into different sections.


I hope through my experiences, I could help you to identify your own career progress in the coffee industry.

Originally from Taiwan, 7 years ago, I came to UK to fulfill my thirst for gaining overseas working experiences.


I had a clear clue that I wanted to become a barista after working for Mr. Tulk cafe in Melbourne. The goal is to master making coffee then return Taiwan to open a cafe of my own.


As you might notice, I am still have not returned to my motherland and my current job clearly is not the one that I aimed for.


My first job was working for the legendary Taylor St Baristas as the front of the house staff. Through their unbeatable barista training, I slowly found my ground in London and mastered barista work during my UK working holiday period.


After Taylor st Baristas, I worked a little bit for Alchemy coffee and started freelance barista work (this is before freelance is a thing in London) since my visa is running out.
